Workspace Tutorial: Setting Up & Populating Your Workspace in Lab

This tutorial walks you through creating a new workspace from scratch and filling it in, step by step, so it's ready to power the rest of your tools.

Overview

A Workspace is where all of your business information lives inside Lab — your niche, backstory, customers, offers, competitors, and brand voice. Every other tool in Lab pulls from this information, so a well-populated workspace is what makes AI-generated content across the platform relevant and on-brand.

This tutorial walks you through creating a new workspace from scratch and filling it in, step by step, so it's ready to power the rest of your tools.

What You'll Learn

  • How to access and create a workspace

  • How to populate business context manually or with AI

  • How personas, problems, and solutions get generated

  • How to add an offer, competitor research, and a brand voice

  • How to edit your workspace later and manage multiple workspaces

Before You Start

Having background material ready will make the AI-generation steps much faster and more accurate. Gather what you can of the following:

  • Your business name and niche

  • Your backstory (why the business exists, who's behind it)

  • Who you work with (target customers/clients)

  • What those people have tried before (their past attempts, competitors, alternatives)

  • Your offerings and pricing

  • Common objections you hear

  • Rough numbers: e.g., new customers per month, profitability

You don't need a polished document — pasted notes, a rough business summary, or even a page you can dictate out loud all work.

Step 1: Create a New Workspace

  1. Click Workspaces in the top-right corner.

  2. Click Create New Workspace.

  3. Choose one of two paths:

    • Start from an old business context — reuse a workspace you've already set up.

    • Create a new workspace — give it a name (e.g., "Case Study Scenario Business") and click Create Workspace.

Step 2: Add Your Business Context

Once inside the new workspace, you have two ways to get information in:

  • Add a web page and let AI do it — Lab pulls information from a URL you provide.

  • Do it manually — Lab asks you a series of questions directly.

If you go manual, you'll be prompted for things like your business name, niche, backstory, who you work with, what they've tried before, your offerings and pricing, and common objections.

Alternatively, choose Generate with AI: paste in background text about your business (or dictate it), and Lab will use that to answer the same questions for you. You can also indicate whether you have supporting documents to upload — if not, choose No and click Generate.

Step 3: Review What Got Populated

After generating, Lab fills in your business context automatically. Take a moment to review it:

  • Check for anything missed (e.g., if the business name wasn't picked up, it likely means that detail wasn't in the source text — just add it manually).

  • Click Save to lock in the context.

Once saved, look through the sections that were auto-populated:

  • Personas — pains, goals, and other details Lab inferred about your customers

  • Problems & Solutions — generated based on the information you provided

You can also add your own supporting material here at any time: your website, helpful links, or documents.

The more detail you give Lab up front, the richer and more accurate these sections will be.

Step 4: Add an Offer

Create a specific offer inside the workspace and describe it — for example:

  • Delivery format: do-it-yourself, done-with-you, or done-for-you

  • A summary of the offer

  • Any guarantee

  • The problem it solves

  • The value it provides

As with the business context, you can click Generate here too — give Lab whatever details you have on hand, and it will fill in the rest.

Step 5: Add Competitor Research

Under Competitor Research, add each competitor's name along with their positioning. This helps Lab understand where your offer sits relative to alternatives your customers may consider.

Step 6: Set a Brand Voice

Under Brand, click Add Voice to help the AI write in a way that sounds like you. You can generate a voice profile from:

  • Writing samples you provide

  • Web pages

  • Documents

This voice is then referenced whenever Lab generates content on your behalf.

Click on design to add your logo, colours, and fonts to be used in assets across the platform

Editing & Managing Your Workspace

A workspace isn't a one-and-done setup — you can return at any time to:

  • Edit or add information manually

  • Regenerate sections with AI as your business evolves

  • Add more than one offer to the same workspace

If you work across multiple businesses (or want a sandbox for a case study), you can create additional workspaces the same way: click Create New Workspace in the top-right corner.

Tips for Best Results

  • Give Lab as much real business detail as you have — the richer the input, the better the auto-generated personas, offers, and problems/solutions.

  • Double-check auto-populated fields (like the business name) — gaps usually mean that detail wasn't in your source text.

  • Remember that every other tool in Lab references this workspace information — keeping it accurate and current pays off across the whole platform.
